Pofta Pescarului – festin marin la umbra epavei Evangelia

on

Am revenit chiar in acel an si mi-am promis ca voi reveni de cate ori voi avea ocazia.

Pofta Pescarului – a marine feast in the shadow of the Evangelia shipwreck

e met back in 2021, in the midst of the pandemic, when both the Restaurant and the Blog were still in their early days…
And yes, it was love at first sight — and then, love at first taste.
I returned that very same year and promised myself I would come back whenever I had the chance.
So here we are — I decided to return this year, and the story goes something like this:
Pofta Pescarului – a marine feast in the shadow of the Evangelia shipwreck.

Where history meets the taste of the sea

Few places on the Romanian seaside manage to blend the story of the sea with its flavor as beautifully as Restaurant Pofta Pescarului in Costinești.
Located right on the shore, just a few steps away from the famous Evangelia shipwreck — the British cargo ship that ran aground in 1968 and has since become the symbol of the resort — this place offers a complete experience: a unique view, the salty sea breeze, and fresh seafood prepared with skill and passion.

As you gaze at the rusty silhouette of the ship, time seems to slow down. And when the steaming plate arrives at your table, you realize that every moment here is a journey — one through history, and one through flavor.

Dishes that tell stories from the deep

Dishes that tell stories from the deep

Mussels in white wine sauce – fresh, tender, and perfectly cooked, the mussels are bathed in a silky sauce of butter, garlic, and wine, with notes of parsley and lemon. The taste is both intense and elegant — simple yet sophisticated.

Seafood platter – a visual and culinary feast: Argentine shrimp, calamari, tentacles, mussels — all lightly sautéed and served with a fine butter-and-wine sauce. The perfect dish to share, with the sound of the waves in the background.

Rapana with vegetables – a rare find elsewhere, here the rapana is cooked with sweet-and-sour cherry tomatoes, peppers, red onion, and a touch of pesto, creating a dish full of character with Mediterranean accents.

Grilled salmon – a choice for those who love refined simplicity: juicy fillet, tender inside with a thin crispy crust, served with light sides.

I tried the Grilled Bonito (Palamidă), one of the stars of the menu at Pofta Pescarului — a fish with firm texture and rich marine flavor that, on the grill, gains a fine, slightly crispy crust contrasting beautifully with its juicy interior.
The fillets are seasoned simply with sea salt and herbs, allowing the authentic taste of the fish to speak for itself.
Alongside polenta, lemon, and garlic sauce, it becomes a pure, seaside-inspired culinary experience — fresh, honest, and full of soul.

Also from the fish category, I tried the Grilled Turbot (Calcan) – the king of the Black Sea, cooked simply and elegantly on the hot grill. Its white, delicate flesh remains tender while forming a golden, slightly crisp crust.
The flavor is intense yet balanced, with subtle notes of the sea, enhanced by a touch of lemon and herbs.
Served with polenta and lutică sauce, this dish is a true declaration of freshness and refined seaside taste.

For those preferring non-seafood options, there’s “Pofta Crispy de pe Țărm” – a true feast for the senses: crispy chicken fingers, golden melted cheese bites, lightly browned onion rings, and golden wedges, served with creamy aioli and aromatic California sauce.
Each bite combines crunchy texture with rich flavors — a perfect balance between comfort food and the seaside breeze. Ideal for sharing, enjoyed on the terrace with the waves of Costinești in the background.

And because no meal is complete without dessert, I chose the menu’s number-one recommendation: Ekomek Kataifi Cake – a culinary sensation that brings Greece straight to your plate.
Fine layers of crisp, golden kataifi pastry embrace smooth vanilla cream, generously soaked in a sweet syrup of sugar and honey.
Each bite is a dance of flavors — sweet, gently caramelized, with subtle buttery and vanilla notes.
A classic Greek dessert that leaves in your heart the joy and taste of a Mediterranean summer.

A sunset flavored with the sea and time standing still

At Pofta Pescarului, every meal is more than just lunch or dinner — it’s a ritual of the senses.
The intense flavor of the sea, the salty breeze, and the majestic view of the Evangelia shipwreck come together to create a memory that stays with you.

As you raise a glass of white wine and watch the sun set over the ship’s silhouette, you realize that here, in Costinești, the sea doesn’t just feed you — it tells you a story.
