INGREDIENTE  (pentru 2 portii)

  • 500 grame varza alba
  • 1 ceapa
  • 1/2 legatura de marar
  • 1/4 lingurita chimen
  • 1 lingura ulei de masline
  • 1 lingurita boabe piper
  • 2 linguri pasta de ardei
  • Sare

Stewed Cabbage with Dill

Baked Stewed Cabbage with Dill – that simple dish that makes you lick your fingers! When you’re craving something warm, tasty, and with that comforting „homey” vibe – but you still want it to be easy to make – this baked stewed cabbage with dill is exactly what you need! It’s the kind of recipe that not only fills your house with delicious smells, but also brings back memories of slow, peaceful meals, grandma smiling in the background, and the clock ticking softly like on a lazy summer holiday. We added a little twist – a hint of caraway, a spoonful of peppercorns, a splash of red pepper paste – so that you feel the love in every bite. And believe us when we say: it’s so good, you’ll want to eat it straight from the pot with a big ol’ spoon! Whether you serve it as a main dish or as a hearty side next to a juicy piece of roasted meat, this oven-baked stewed cabbage has that something that makes you go: “Just one more serving!”

INGREDIENTS (for 2 servings)

  • 500 g white cabbage
  • 1 onion
  • 1/2 bunch of fresh dill
  • 1/4 tsp caraway seeds
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp whole peppercorns
  • 2 tbsp red pepper paste (or tomato paste)
  • Salt to taste
  • About 100–150 ml water (for braising)

Heat one tablespoon of olive oil in a large pot and add the finely chopped onion and caraway seeds, along with 50 ml of cold water. Let everything simmer gently over low heat until the onion softens and becomes sweet and tender.

Once the onion is soft, add the finely chopped cabbage. Sprinkle in some salt and toss in the peppercorns for that little pop of flavor. Stir everything well and let the cabbage stew gently for about 30 minutes. If the liquid evaporates too quickly, just add another 50 ml of water as needed. The cabbage should be soft and slightly glossy – not fried or dry.

When the cabbage is nicely cooked, stir in the red pepper paste and cook for another 5 minutes, just enough for the flavors to blend beautifully.

Finally, turn off the heat, stir in the finely chopped dill, and… serve it up with joy and appetite!
